The Great Turkey Walk
Physical Challenges

Crossing the River. Give the participants 3 large pieces of brown construction paper (you can draw knot holes on them to make them look more like logs. Challenge the team to get all of its members across the river ( a space marked with masking tape at least 10ft wide) while staying on the paper and not touching the floor below it. In other words they must move and rotate the paper so that they can all use it to cross the river.

Catching Fish. Cut out 20 flannel fish. Put metal washers in between two of the fish and glue or sew this together. Draw fish faces on the outside of the fish. Buy two long dowel rods and hot glue fishing line to one end of it and then tie the other end of the fishing line to a U shaped magnet. See who can catch the most fish in 40 seconds.

How much water can the Turkey drink? Paint two milk jugs (one gallon size preferred) brown with the rims yellow. Glue two large googley eyes on one side of both jugs. Then make tails by tracing you hand five times (for each jug) out of fall colored paper. Cut your hands out and glue to the bottom of the jug. Get two buckets and fill with water.   Place the turkeys on paint tarps or a surface you do not mind getting wet and give two participants Dixie cups. See who can transfer the most water from the bucket (Placed at least 5 feet away) and into the turkey’s mouth in two minutes. At the end see who got the most water into their turkey.

How much can the turkey eat? Buy a bag of Candy Corn. Make a turkey out of a square tissue box buy either painting it brown or wrapping it in brown leaving the large opening free. Use an X-acto knife to cut a very small hole in the opposite end from the opening. Draw a turkey mouth around this opening.  Add google eyes and make a turkey tail out of traced hands see above instructions. Put the turkey tail above the larger opening. Then give the participants 1 minute to put as many candy corns into the turkey’s mouth as possible. Pour out the big opening to count.

Shoot the Turkey’s. For this you need a rubber band gun. Trace your hand and make a turkey beak on your thumb cut out and then use a paper clip folded and glued to another piece of construction paper to make the turkey stand. Then use the rubber band gun to try and knock them over.

Herding the Turkey’s. Make several more turkey tails from hand cut outs and glue together. Then tape theses to one end of a round balloon and draw eyes on the balloon then have the participant heard this across a 10ft meadow with a manila folder.
