With construction paper, markers, and any fun leftover craft supplies available, have each team come up with a team name and make a crest or banner.

 

Set up the ten dragon bowling pins in a triangle. Have the contestants bowl with a dragon, throwing underhanded and gentle. (Bowling pins are water bottles with beans in them. I used Microsoft word to print off dragons which I attached to the bottles with packing tape. I bought the dragon at Target.)

 

As a team you must work together to spell the word D-R-A-G-O-N out of a tub of foam letters. For an extra challenge, spell the word out of the same color of foam letters. (I had a tub of foam letters left over from a previous craft activity. These can be purchased at Michael’s or Jo-Ann’s.)

 

This is a team activity. Work together to mold a dragon out of clay and then give him or her statistics. Like:

 

Each team member will be given 5 to 10 colored crafts sticks which represent dragons. They must stand straight up, not bending at the waist, and hold the dragon touching their nose. They must then try and drop the dragon into the jar.

Each child has three plates with the center cut out so that they are Frisbees. They will try to throw the Frisbees so that they catch on the horns of Hiccup’s helmet.

 

Kids will pretend to be dragons getting fish out of the ocean. They will use chopsticks to pick up jelly beans.

Each child will take an empty picnic basket, run to the table where there is a caldron of plastic eggs, pick an egg, put it in the basket and run back. The child will then open the egg. If empty, he/she needs to do it again until he/she has a dragon filled egg. The goal is to do this as quietly as possible like Hiccup and his friends would do when going into the cave. (Once again I used Microsoft Word to print out dragon pictures to put in the eggs.)

 

Hiccup is always trying to make his dragon laugh. In this challenge, each child has to pick a funny joke out of a joke book and try to get the rest of the kids to laugh.

 

Using magnetic fishing poles try to get the most dragons in 30 seconds. (I used our die cut machine to cut out twenty felt dragons. I used a hot glue gun to glue two dragons together with a magnet between them. I made fishing poles out of dowel rods, yarn, and u magnets.)
